Install Nginx from Source

Step-1: Install the dependencies for Nginx

sudo su -
yum -y install wget gcc gcc-c++ make zlib-devel pcre-devel openssl-devel

Step-2: Download Nginx Source Code

cd /opt
wget http://nginx.org/download/nginx-1.12.1.tar.gz

Step-3: Extract the tar balls

tar xf nginx-1.12.1.tar.gz
ln -sf nginx-1.12.1/ nginx

Step-4: Configure Nginx

cd nginx
./configure 
--user=nginx                          
--group=nginx                         
--prefix=/etc/nginx                   
--sbin-path=/usr/sbin/nginx           
--conf-path=/etc/nginx/nginx.conf     
--pid-path=/var/run/nginx.pid         
--lock-path=/var/run/nginx.lock       
--error-log-path=/var/log/nginx/error.log 
--http-log-path=/var/log/nginx/access.log 
--with-http_gzip_static_module        
--with-http_stub_status_module        
--with-http_ssl_module                
--with-pcre                           
--with-file-aio                       
--with-http_realip_module             
--without-http_scgi_module            
--without-http_uwsgi_module           
--without-http_fastcgi_module

Step-5: Compile the Nginx Source

make
make install

Step-6: Creating user for nginx

useradd -r nginx

Step-7: Creating init.d script for Nginx at /etc/init.d/nginx

Step-8: Change permissions on the startup script

chmod +x /etc/init.d/nginx

Step-9: Setting the service to satrt when the server boots

chkconfig --add nginx
chkconfig --level 345 nginx on

Step-10: Start the Nginx Server

service nginx start
